Lindsey Hunter shares her one year living & working experience in Italy

I moved to Italy one year ago, after spending the entirety of my working life in London, United Kingdom. My move to Italy came about due to my Italian partner wanting to move back to Italy, after spending many years abroad.

We decided to take the plunge – and here we are! I first heard of Penta in Italy from my work in the UK, and after seeing a job opening for a Communications Manager, I applied and started working at Penta in October 2019.

Starting out in Penta Communications, I began working on the conect4children (c4c) project, a project which I was familiar with from my work in the UK, and after a few months I took on the c4c work package leadership role.

A few months ago, I took on a new role as the Network, Education and Training (NET) Team Manager – due to my past experience as a researcher, managing research teams and working with funders and government departments to increase paediatric research capacity in the UK.

My first year in Italy has been a strange one – due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the various states of lockdown. However, Penta’s friendly culture has made me feel welcome, and although Penta is a small organisation, it is full of people from all over the world. I have managed to meet some amazing people who, even in this difficult period, have shown me the delights Italy has to offer.

As we move into the next year, I am looking forward to working to strengthen the work of the Penta ID Network and work with the NET team to drive forward our training and education programmes.
