EARTH: first patient has been recruited!

It is with great pleasure that we announce that the first patient in the EARTH study has been recruited. This encouraging news comes to us from the PHRU site in Soweto, South Africa. Now that all sites are open for recruitment, with some patients having already been screened, we are confident we will see more participants in the near future. earth-logoThis is the first of 150 children to be enrolled from one of 5 sites situated in South Africa and Mozambique.

EARTH: report on a study visit in South Africa and Mozambique

The EARTH project, nested within the EPIICAL platform is focussed on recruiting participants from five sites across South Africa and Mozambique: the Africa Health and Research Institute (AHRI) in Durban, The Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto,  the Tygerberg Academic Hospital in Cape Town, the Ariel Glaser foundation in Maputo and Centro de Investigacao de Saude de Manhiça (CISM) in Manhiça. The objective of EARTH is to characterise the virological and immunological markers in children who have been treated with antiretroviral therapy (ART) within the first 3 months after HIV diagnosis with two years of follow up.

CARMA study is entering the final stage of enrollment

We are happy to announce that the enrollment into the CARMA study is moving fast with 31 patients enrolled out of a target of 40 patients. Thanks all sites for their committment!

CARMA is a a multi-centre, cross-sectional study of children with perinatally acquired HIV-1 on sustained suppressive antiretroviral therapy started before 2 years of age. It is part of the EPIICAL project, which is financed by ViiV Healthcare U.K.
