Many of you will have heard about the novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV, which was identified in Wuhan, China. Infection with this virus causes respiratory disease ranging from mild to severe disease, and in some cases has led to death. People with serious underlying medical conditions are more at risk for severe disease and death.
The first case of coronavirus was reported on 12 December 2019 and was linked to the seafood market in Wuhan City in China,

The first confirmed case of Wuhan Coronavirus infection in the United States has been announced yesterday by CDC. The Platform foR European Preparedness Against (Re-) emerging Epidemics (PREPARE) network, in which Penta is partner, has been set-up to rapidly respond to any severe ID outbreak, providing real-time evidence for clinical management of patients and for informing public health responses.
A press release has also been published with more information about the exciting and innovative PREPARE’s ALIC4E clinical trial. This is the only study that is currently randomizing patients to receive antiviral treatment or not.
