John Kopsidas

John is a pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases and epidemiology, and serves as Medical Advisor for Penta in Athens.
Through his work he has taken part in the design and implementation of surveillance systems for hand hygiene compliance, antibiotic use, and hospital acquired infections (HAI), as well as the design and implementation of HAI prevention bundles. He has also conducted educational and training activities for healthcare workers in the above areas. His work developing and implementing a plan to increase seasonal influenza vaccination among healthcare workers in a tertiary-care children’s hospital in Greece was shortlisted for the EU HEALTH NGO Award in 2017. In 2018, he was selected by the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) as an International Ambassador.
Dr. Kopsidas has trained in both Greece and the United States, and is currently pursuing a PhD focusing on the design, implementation, and impact of an antibiotic stewardship program in pediatric hospitals in a resource-limited setting.
