In 2025, Penta reached a key milestone by strengthening frontline capacity in paediatric HIV care through the THRIVE Advanced HIV Disease training in Mozambique. Delivered in Maputo in September, the two‑day workshop focused on the hospital care of severely ill children living with advanced HIV disease, addressing one of the most critical gaps in paediatric HIV outcomes.
Co‑led by the Mozambique Ministry of Health, national paediatric leads and Penta experts, the training brought together clinicians, researchers and public health professionals from across the country. The programme was designed following a targeted needs assessment, ensuring that content directly responded to priority knowledge gaps identified by healthcare providers working in high‑burden settings.
Participants engaged in expert‑led sessions and interactive case discussions covering diagnostics, evidence‑based treatment strategies, opportunistic infections and the management of complex complications, including respiratory disease, malnutrition and neurological conditions. A strong emphasis was placed on practical, context‑specific approaches aligned with global and national guidelines.
Feedback highlighted the relevance and immediate applicability of the training, with participants reporting increased confidence and intent to improve clinical practice.
