Fondazione Penta ETS and the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalising a strategic collaboration to support the development and equitable access of priority health technologies for children and adolescents in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The agreement builds on a collaboration developed over several years through the WHO Global Accelerator for Paediatric Formulations (GAP-f) and other international initiatives focused on addressing unmet paediatric health needs. Earlier this year, Penta and MPP also joined forces to support clinical development and access-related activities in the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), further demonstrating the complementary nature of their expertise.
The MoU brings together complementary areas of expertise. Penta contributes its experience in the design, sponsorship, coordination and management of clinical trials and evidence-generation activities, while MPP, a United Nations-backed public health organisation, contributes its expertise in intellectual property management, voluntary licensing, technology transfer, manufacturing strategies and access planning for LMICs.
Through this collaboration, the two organisations will explore opportunities to engage with developers, regulators, funders, governments and global health partners to support the clinical development, regulatory evaluation and sustainable introduction of innovative health technologies. The agreement also provides a framework for identifying new funding opportunities and collaborative projects across infectious and non-communicable diseases, with the shared goal of ensuring that children and adolescents benefit more rapidly and equitably from health innovation.
