Second edition of our “PentaTr@ining 2024: Fungal Infections in Paediatrics course” launches

27 Sep, 2024

On 16th September, 2024 we kicked off the second edition of our online course, “Fungal Infections in Paediatrics” on our PentaTr@ining platform, with more than 200 delegates logging in from across the world. The innovative programme is run on our virtual learning environment, providing space for students and faculty to engage and collaboratively solve problems around delivering new and improved treatment options for fungal infections in neonates and children worldwide.

The start of this edition has been fantastic with very motivated and enthusiastic participants from over 60 countries across the globe. As the first module already comes to an end, we have enjoyed a great engagement and interaction between the participants as well as with the course moderators and tutors, a key aspect of this course. Learning together and learning from each other, we are working to improve the management of fungal diseases in neonates and children. I am immensely pleased with the support from Penta Child Health, ESPID and the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology, allowing us to make this training course accessible to every healthcare professional in the world.” – Prof. Adilia Warris, Course Lead

The training topics are being discussed via a series of expert video presentations and interactive clinical cases, illustrated with tables and figures, and with links to major papers on the specific topic and websites. These are complemented by our lively discussion forums, allowing all participants to delve even deeper into specific learning points through engagement with the tutors and other fellow students. Moreover, live ‘Ask the Expert’ webinars are incorporated into each module, where delegates have the opportunity to submit and discuss specific burning questions with the course trainers in real-time.

Led by internationally recognized experts in their field, many of whom are part of the Penta Fungal Infections Working Group and EPMyN network, this course provides participants with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and improve their ability to diagnose and treat invasive fungal infections in children and identify complications and early signs of infection. As well as that, the training offers a unique platform for cultivating new networking channels and further collaborations among all our participants.

A big thank you to our sponsors of this course, ESPID and MRC Centre for Medical Mycology and University of Exeter. Their generosity and continued support is key to helping us build capacity among the paediatric healthcare workers of today – and the next generation too!
