VERDI poster wins “Best Poster” Award at ESPID 2024!

12 Jun, 2024

We are pleased to announce that the poster “SARS-CoV-2 Infection Incidence and Severity in Immunocompromised Children: A Population-Based Study in Italy and Norway” has received the Best Poster Award from the ESPID Committee for Research!

The poster presented results from a VERDI population-based cohort study on children (0-14 years) in Italy and Norway, assessing the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection, hospitalisation, and severe COVID-19 outcomes in children with and without immunocompromising conditions.

The research, which brought together the expertises of VERDI partners from the University of Padua and Penta (Italy), University of Oslo (Norway) and University College London (United Kingdom), showed that immunocompromised children have a similar or lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to non-immunocompromised children. Out of 400,000 children hospitalised with COVID-19, only 5 developed severe disease.

At next year’s conference, the VERDI team will present a detailed discussion of their work during the Best of ESPID session. Throughout 2024, the study will also expand its analysis to include data from the United Kingdom.
