A new collaborative project called SUPPORT has officially launched to train the next generation of researchers who will focus on preventing mortality among these children.

The SUPPORT initiative, funded by EDCTP3 will run for 54 months and aims to equip early and mid-career researchers with expertise in clinical care, laboratory science, social science, and data analysis. The program will target researchers in Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Senegal due to the high disease burden of HIV in these regions.

A new collaborative initiative, SUPPORT – Supporting the next generation of African experts on preventing mortality among children living with HIV through translational training, has officially launched. The project funded by EDCTP3 will last 54 months. Through SUPPORT, eight early and five mid-career research fellows from Sub-Saharan African will be recruited to do a 36-month PhD for the early researchers, and a 24-month post-doctoral stay for the mid-career researchers in Mozambique,

The inaugural Clinical Trial Management training program took place online on Wednesday, 14 June 2023, after 428 participants registered. The session was well attended by up to 168 clinical trial staff representing 30 countries. The training course is being implemented by UNIVERSAL’s Work package 8 and focuses on improving the capacity of research staff and young investigators to design, implement, and manage regulatory clinical trials, especially paediatric clinical trials.

The 3-day course in Guatemala has come to a close. Around 100 frontline healthcare professionals caring for HIV infected children from Guatemala, San Salvador, Ecuador, Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua and Costa Rica met in Antigua, 45 kilometres from Guatemala City, in order to acquire new knowledge and share their experience and know-how in the treatment and care of Pediatric HIV. The course agenda foresaw: epidemiology and elimination of perinatal transmission,

Three intensive days of training, where students and teachers meet face-to face and discuss about the lessons learnt through the previous distant e-learning sessions.
